Brazilian waxing aftercare: what to do in the first 48 hours
By Perfectly Bare Wax Bar | August 4, 2026
If you just left our Mid-City studio feeling like your Brozilian result is "perfect" and the whole thing was way more comfortable than you expected, protect that smooth skin with one rule: keep the area cool and clean for 48 hours. In New Orleans heat and humidity, that means skipping heavy sweat, sex, hot tubs, and tight clothes. A quick lukewarm shower, gentle cleanse, pat dry, then a simple fragrance-free soothing gel is the move.
48-hour priority: think "no heat, no friction, no bacteria." Your skin is calm when you keep it cool and hands-off.
The first 24 to 48 hours: the do-not-do list that saves your skin
Right after a Brozilian Wax (Man Brazilian), your follicles are open and your skin is a little extra reactive. That is why the first two days matter so much. We keep the service efficient in the room, and your job is to keep the recovery simple at home.
For 48 hours, skip these
- Intense workouts and heavy sweating. July festival season in New Orleans is not the moment to test your luck with heat rash.
- Sex. Friction plus sweat is the fastest way to trigger irritation or bumps.
- Hot tubs, saunas, and very hot showers. Heat can prolong redness and make you feel more tender.
- Sun exposure or tanning. Freshly waxed skin can discolor more easily.
- Tight underwear or rough fabrics. Go breathable and loose so your skin stays calm.
If you have to be out and about, do the simple stuff that makes a big difference: wear loose clothing, change out of sweaty clothes promptly, and rinse off when you can. A lot of our Mid-City and City Park area clients schedule around outdoor plans for exactly this reason. If you have a long day in the French Quarter coming up, get waxed early enough that you are not stuck in heat and friction the same day.
Showering the same day is fine, just keep it gentle
We generally recommend a lukewarm shower, a gentle fragrance-free cleanser, and no scrubbing. Pat dry. Then apply a simple alcohol-free soothing product (think aloe-based gel or similar). Keep your hands off the area the rest of the day.
Days 3 to 7: when bumps happen, and how we keep them from sticking around
Most people look and feel great quickly, especially when the wax itself was detailed and thorough. But the first week is when people accidentally cause problems by doing too much. Keep it simple, keep it clean, and do not pick.
Hold off on actives: skip AHAs, BHAs, retinol, and strong fragranced body products on the waxed area for at least 72 hours.
Swimming, pools, and hot tubs
We generally recommend avoiding pools and chlorinated water for 24 to 48 hours. Hot tubs are a longer "no" because heat plus bacteria is a rough combo right after waxing. If you absolutely cannot avoid water exposure, rinse the area afterward, pat dry, and change into clean, dry clothing as soon as possible.
If you see bumps or feel irritated
A few small bumps can happen, especially if you got sweaty or wore tight clothes. Try a cool compress for a few minutes and keep your products basic. A fragrance-free antiseptic like witch hazel or a plain aloe gel often helps. If things worsen, or you suspect folliculitis, reach out so our team can guide you.
Ingrown hair prevention: start exfoliating on day 4 to 7, not on day 2
Ingrowns usually come from friction, dead skin buildup, or trying to "help" the area too soon. The timing is the trick. Let your skin settle first, then add prevention habits when it is ready.
Days 0 to 3
- No exfoliation yet.
- No acids or exfoliating scrubs on the area.
- Moisturize lightly with fragrance-free lotion if you feel dry.
Days 4 to 7
- Start gentle exfoliation 2 to 3 times a week.
- Choose a soft exfoliating mitt or a mild scrub. Light pressure only.
- Keep wearing breathable underwear, especially in New Orleans humidity.
If you are prone to ingrowns, tell us at your appointment. Our therapists talk through hair growth patterns and skin care all the time, and we will help you pick the simplest routine that fits your skin.
Brozilian Wax (Man Brazilian) details that affect aftercare: front, underside, and your preferred shape
Our Brozilian Wax (Man Brazilian) is a 30-minute service, priced at $65. We remove all hair from the front and underside, and you can leave a landing strip or triangle if you want a specific look. Aftercare does not change based on the shape you choose. The skin still needs those first 48 hours to stay calm.
The biggest difference we see in recovery comes down to friction and sweat. If you are commuting over from Metairie, Lakeview, Uptown, Gentilly, or Carrollton, plan a cool-down window after your appointment. Go home, change into loose clothes, and let your skin settle instead of sitting in heat right away.
Quick comfort tip: if you feel warm or tender, a clean, cool compress for a few minutes usually helps more than layering on products.
If something feels off, talk to our waxing specialists (we really do answer)
People come to us for male Brazilian waxing because the vibe is professional, clean, and comfortable, and our team does not rush you through questions. We also hear, over and over, that appointments are quick without skipping details, which is exactly what you want for a smooth result.

A little redness, mild swelling, and tenderness are common right after waxing and usually calm down within a day or two. Reach out if you have spreading redness, worsening pain, pus-like bumps, or anything that feels like it is getting more intense instead of settling. And if you are planning around City Park events or a humid weekend out, tell us ahead of time so we can help you time your appointment for the easiest recovery.
Want help picking your timing? Call us and we will talk through your plans, your skin, and your aftercare so you stay comfortable.
